Self-esteem

Sometimes parents wonder how or why their teens developed low self-esteem!

During the teen years, when teenagers are going through numerous physical and emotional changes, they often experience drastic changes in their self-esteem. Children typically experience a crisis of confidence as they approach the teenage years. It is natural for teenagers to go through some shaky times. Sometimes teenagers view themselves as a failure when they make mistakes. At times, they are afraid to try new things. It is tough for parents to see their children go through hard times. Some parents feel that they should rescue and protect their teens from misfortunes.

High self-esteem doesn’t just occur by making teens feel good or happy. Teenagers develop high self-esteem through handling responsibility. High self-esteem gives teenagers the confidence to try new things and helps them become more independent. Research shows that parents can help build their teens’ self-esteem by giving them new responsibilities by taking an interest in their hobbies.
